More on porn...

I swear, I'll move onto something else eventually (maybe)...

Great conversation going on over at Susie Bright's Journal. There's a lot of talk about Girls Gone Wild specifically, but I think it's a bit misplaced. I see the whole Girls Gone Wild phenomenon as less a "pornification" of America than a part of the "humiliation" of America. There's nothing really sexy about these videos. Most of the men I know agree. The thrill comes from seeing ordinary people willing to behave embarrassingly for little or no reward aside from being on TV. That sounds familiar, but I can't think why... Oh right. Reality television.

One last thing before you go read. One of the comments was interesting to me. I'm not sure if I agree, but I'm thinking about it still.

"When it comes to girls going wild, I think the empowerment likely comes in
when you find that once you lift your shirt in public, you're still the same
person. That is, you're not a virgin, but you're not a whore. I think that's an
empowering lesson to learn (and sometimes a hard one to let sink in), though the
empowerment is limited."
